Delivery — kerbside, on a pallet

Standard delivery is free to mainland UK addresses with no minimum spend and arrives within 3–5 working days. Your paving comes palletised on an 18-tonne tail-lift lorry, delivered kerbside: the driver lowers the pallet and moves it with a pump truck to the nearest safe hard-standing — your driveway or the kerb — but won't carry stone through the property, so please have help on hand. A handful of remote Highland and island postcodes may carry a surcharge, always shown at checkout before you pay.

Choose your delivery date

Free standard delivery gives a 3–5 working-day window. If you need a set day, pick nominated-day delivery (£39.00) for a chosen weekday, or Saturday delivery (£69.00) at checkout — the date picker shows the real available dates for your postcode. Full details on the delivery & guarantee page.

Breakage guarantee — 48-hour photo claim

Every pallet is covered. If anything arrives cracked, chipped or broken, take clear photos of the damaged slabs as delivered and send them with your order number within 48 hours of delivery. We send free replacements or credit the affected pieces — nothing to send back, no quibbling over a broken corner. See the breakage guarantee for the claim steps.

Returns basics

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you can cancel most online orders within 14 days of delivery and return the goods within a further 14 days for a refund. Goods must be unused and in a re-saleable condition, and you're responsible for return carriage of heavy goods unless they're faulty. Faulty or not-as-described goods are covered separately under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 — the full policy is in our terms & conditions.

Why Choose Dunestone Black 16mm Porcelain Paving

Finish That Holds Its Looks: The deep black and white veining of Dunestone replicates the real character of natural slate paving or dark quarried stone, without the porosity, irregularity and maintenance demands. The colour does not fade , bleach, or wear away under UV exposure or foot traffic.

R11 Anti-Slip Paving: The slip resistance is built into the texture of the tile. The R11 rating gives reliable foot grip in wet UK weather conditions. This is particularly important for black paving tiles as water is harder to see on the surface. Browse our full collection of non-slip paving slabs

Weather Resistance: Porcelain has less than 0.5% water absorption. UK weather is unpredictable and you see frequent rainfall and freeze-thaw cycles throughout the year. With porcelain, you experience almost no performance issue that is frequent with natural slate and black sandstone paving.

Low Maintenance: Due to the low porosity of porcelain, it gives very little grip to algae, mould and stains. The dark finish handles garden dirt and organic debris more than light paving slabs. Soapy water or light pressure wash is enough to keep it anew even after a decade of use.

Slim Porcelain With Full Visual Impact: These 16mm porcelain paving tiles are lighter than theri 20mm version, making it practical on restricted access sites, upper terraces, or any space where material is carried upstairs or through narrow access.

Striking Aesthetics Against Backdrops: Black porcelain paving works particulaly well alongside light coloured rander, white or cream walls, pale decking and strong planting. It is one of the few outdoor porcelain tiles that photographs well and looks good in person at the same time.

Best Applications for 16mm Dunestone Black Porcelain Paving

Here are some of the ideal outdoor spaces that you can use these 16mm dark porcelain paving slabs in:

  • Patios and Garden Terraces: These large paving slabs 900 x 600mmm, create an uninterrupted surface across patios and outdoor kitchen zones. Explore our garden patio paving slabs for more timeless inspirations for gardens.
  • Roof Terraces and Balconies: The reduced weight is beneficial for spaces with structural load limits. Dark finish creates monochromatic rooftop aestetics when paired with modern outdoor furniture and perimeter planting.
  • Pedestal and Raised Deck Systems: The 16mm profile sits cleanly within adjustable pedestal frameworks, allowing a level installation over uneven or sloped surfaces without full excavation.
  • Pool Surrounds: The R11 slip rating and water-resistant surface make Dunestone Black a practical poolside choice.
  • Overlay Installations: Where laying over an existing sound surface is preferable to a full dig-out, the slimmer slab keeps finished levels and transition heights manageable.
  • Contemporary Outdoor Dining Areas: The black stone-effect finish suits modern outdoor entertaining spaces; particularly where the brief is a cohesive, designed outdoor room rather than a functional yard.

Considerations Before You Buy 16mm Dunestone Black Porcelain

  • 16mm porcelain slabs must be installed on a pedestal/raised system or a fully bonded mortar bed. They are not suitable for loose-lay or gravel-bed installation. Without a solid continuous bond the slab will flex and fail under foot traffic.
  • Use flexible tile adhesive and exterior grout when bonding to a sub-base. Standard sand and cement does not provide a reliable bond for porcelain.
  • For roof terraces and balconies, confirm structural load capacity with your builder or structural engineer before ordering. Even with 16mm slabs, total weight across a full terrace area is significant.
  • Dark porcelain slabs absorb more heat than lighter colourways in direct sun. Worth considering for south-facing installations where bare feet will be common.
  • Order a £0.99 sample to assess the finish and tone in your own space before committing to a full pack.

The honest bit

What to know before you order

Batches vary slightly

Porcelain is printed and fired, so it's far more consistent than natural stone — but shade can still shift a touch between production batches. Order your full quantity in one go where you can.

Dry-lay before you fix

Lay slabs out loose from mixed packs and stand back before anything is stuck down. Once it's fixed, it's yours — ten minutes of dry-laying is the cheapest insurance there is.

Wet looks different to dry

Every slab reads darker and richer when wet — and this is Britain, so it will be wet. Check your sample both ways before you commit.

Delivery is kerbside

Your order arrives palletised on a tail-lift lorry, placed on the nearest safe hard-standing. The driver won't carry slabs through the house — have a barrow and a second pair of hands ready.

Questions

Dunestone Black Porcelain — the essentials

How is Dunestone Black Porcelain delivered?

Standard delivery is free to mainland UK addresses with no minimum spend and arrives within 3–5 working days. Your order comes palletised on an 18-tonne tail-lift lorry and is delivered kerbside — the driver moves the pallet to the nearest safe hard-standing but won't carry slabs through the property, so have help on hand to move it. Need a set day? Choose nominated-day delivery (£39.00) or Saturday delivery (£69.00) at checkout.

Can I see Dunestone Black before I order a full pack?

Yes — order a £0.98 sample and it's posted next working day, so you can see and feel the exact surface in your own garden light before committing to a full order.

What happens if slabs arrive broken?

Every pallet is covered by our breakage guarantee. Photograph the damaged slabs as delivered and send the photos with your order number within 48 hours of delivery — we'll send free replacements or credit the affected pieces, with nothing for you to send back.

How much does one slab or pack cover?

Each 900×600mm slab covers 0.54 m², and a full pack of 52 slabs covers 28.08 m². Enter your area into the coverage calculator above and it rounds up to whole slabs and packs, with a 10% allowance for cuts and waste built in.

Is it slippery when wet?

This range is rated R11 — a slip-resistance class from the DIN 51130 ramp test, where the scale runs R9 (least grip) to R13 (most) and R11 is the common specification for UK patios and pool surrounds. The grip comes from a textured finish fired into the slab's surface, not a coating that can wear off.

Will every slab match the photos exactly?

Porcelain is printed and fired, so colour and pattern are far more consistent than natural stone — but slight shade variation between production batches is normal. Order your full quantity in one go where you can, work from mixed packs, and dry-lay a few slabs before fixing. Colours also read slightly darker when wet.
